CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Behind one of its strongest defensive efforts of the season, the Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team ended the 2019 regular season with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-13) sweep of visiting Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday afternoon inside Curry Arena.
The Royals (22-5, 19-3 SAC) held Lincoln Memorial (11-18, 10-12 SAC) to a .050 hitting mark, the fifth-lowest mark by an opponent this season, behind nine total team blocks and 60 digs. Middles
Logan Witt and
Lindsay Elmore each had four total blocks at the net.
Queens was in control throughout much of the opening set until a late 6-0 run by Lincoln Memorial put the visitors ahead by a 21-18 score. The Royals responded with six unanswered points of their own to go in front 24-21 before an LMU attack errors gave Queens the set win.
The second frame featured just two lead changes as the Royals were ahead early and often to take a 2-0 match lead. Queens led from start to finish in the third set, forcing the Railsplitters to hit negative in securing the team's seventh straight victory.
Witt led all players with 12 kills and hit .667 in the match, while Elmore and junior
Casey Tarvin each followed with eight kills. Tarvin also registered 16 digs as fellow juniors
JayCee Jones and
Chanel Turner chipped in 13 and 12 digs, respectively. Senior
Mallory Swarts tallied a double-double with 30 assists and 10 digs to go along with three service aces.
Queens now turns it focus to the 2019 South Atlantic Conference Championships where the team has earned the tournament's No. 2 seed and will host a quarterfinal matchup on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. The League will announce the complete tournament bracket following the conclusion of competition on Saturday night.
