Men's Soccer Eliminated from SAC Tournament

MATTHEWS, N.C. – The second-seeded Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team was eliminated from the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Friday afternoon, falling by a 1-0 score to No. 15 Wingate University, the tournament's third seed, in a semifinal matchup at the Matthews Sportsplex.

Wingate (12-2-3) scored early on in the contest as the 2019 SAC Player and Freshman of the Year Paul Ngongo raced past the Queens (11-6) defense to net his 18th goal of the season. The Bulldogs carried a 1-0 advantage into the halftime break after outshooting the Royals 7-4 in the opening period.

After intermission, the Bulldogs remained in control throughout the final 45 minutes of play, turning away several Queens' chances down the stretch to advance in the postseason.

The Royals postseason hope may still be alive with an at-large berth to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional still in play. The NCAA Division II Men's Soccer selection show takes place on Monday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m.
