Queens Advances to Second Round of NCAA Tournament in Thrilling Fashion

Boca Raton, FLA - The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (11-6-1; 7-3 SAC) notched a gut-wrenching victory over Lee University (12-4-5; 5-3-3 GSC) in a match decided in penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw lasted 110 minutes.

Eighth-seeded Queens got all they could handle from ninth-seeded Lee but survived 5-4 in penalty kicks to move on to the second round of the Division II NCAA Tournament.

Following a scoreless first half, Queens took the first lead in the 53'rd minute when redshirt freshman Boris Basara tacked in the first scoreof his career. Lee answered promptly with a goal 14 minutes later from leading scorer, Jared McWhorter. A defensive stalemate ensued lasting the length of regulation plus two overtime periods sending the match to penalty kicks.

Queens outdueled Lee in PK's connecting on five of its six shot attempts while senior goalkeeper Sebastion Kalk provided the game-winning save. The Royals survived the feisty, defensive match that totaled 40 fouls and less than 20 shot attempts.

Queens advances to the second round of the Division II NCAA Tournament where they will meet top-seeded Lynn University Saturday, November 23rd at 6 p.m.
