Jefferson City, TN - The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (6-3; 3-2 SAC) ended its three game winning streak with a 2-1 loss at Carson-Newman (6-2-1; 3-1-1 SAC) in a match with potential South Atlantic Conference title implications.
Carson-Newman jumped to an early lead with a goal in the 18th minute by Sofian Maghouz setting the tone for the Eagles. Despite holding a double-digit lead in shots taken, Queens entered halftime trailing by one score.
The Royals maintained composure and tied the game in the 61st minute courtesy of a connection between sophomore midfielder Jaden McCane and junior defender Michael Hornsby for McCane's first goal of his career. The back-and-forth affair kept pace until Maghouz' second goal of the night lifted the Eagles back on top.
Queens was unable to execute an equalizing goal and lost by one score despite outshooting the Eagles by 12 shots. Queens is back on the road taking on Young Harris Wednesday, October 9th at 5 p.m.
