Royals Secure Eighth Straight Conference Win with Season Sweep of Coker

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team moved to 8-1 in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas play today after picking up a 4-1 win over Coker College to complete the home-and-home series sweep of the Cobras (8-6, 5-5).
 
The Royals dominated Coker offensively putting 11 of their 17 shots on goal for the day compared the Coker's two shots on goal out of seven.
 
Four different Royals found the back of the net as Gabe Lechner earned the first game-winning goal of her collegiate year after striking first in the ninth minute of play. Her goal gave the game a 1-0 score until Millie Eaton-Jones and Carey Karl added one apiece in the third quarter. Hanna Nechay then scored the final goal of the day in the 51st just ahead of Coker's lone goal of the game from Kelly Mason.
 
Molly Walter, Leighton Eber, and Mazvita Mtisi each recorded assists today. In goal Avian Thompson recorded her ninth win of the year.
 
Queens is back in action at home against Belmont Abbey on Saturday, October 26 at noon. They will be looking to avenge their only conference loss of the season.
