CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team clinched a share of its first South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Regular Season Championship this afternoon defeating Belmont Abbey, 1-0, at Bessant Field. Today's win over the Crusaders moves the Royals to 9-1 in league play and 11-5 on the year. It also avenges the only conference loss Queens has this season.

After coming up unlucky on a few scoring opportunities this afternoon, Queens was able to really capitalize when they were awarded a penalty stroke in the 59
th minute of action due to a Belmont Abbey defender committing a deliberate foul which prevented a goal from being scored. Junior midfielder
Maya Forbes stepped up to score the goal and give the Royals a 1-0 lead which they held on to until the end of regulation.

Queens outshot Belmont Abbey 10-3, putting two shots on goal. The Royal also earned five penalty corners to the Crusaders' three.

Avian Thompson recorded two saves to notch her fifth shutout of the season.
