CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's volleyball team ran its winning streak to four in a row with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-21, 25-19) triumph over Newberry College inside Curry Arena on Friday night.
The Royals (11-3, 8-2 SAC) hit .256 as a team, including over the .300 mark in both the first and third sets, while Newberry hit just .104 and fell to 4-10 overall with a 2-8 mark in conference play.
Queens opened the match with a 14-3 in the first set of play, building a lead as large as 16 points late in the set before a kill from
Lindsay Elmore closed out the frame. The second and third sets saw the Royals trail just twice as the team cruised to the three-set sweep.
Junior
Casey Tarvin led the team with 13 kills and 18 digs for her sixth double-double of the season and third in a row. Fellow junior
Chanel Turner followed with 11 kills and hit .391, while junior
Logan Witt had nine kills and a .471 hitting mark.
Sophomore
Brooke Farley and
JayCee Jones each had 12 digs on defense, and Farley finished with three service aces. Senior
Mallory Swarts had a match-high 27 assists to go along with two service aces of her own.
The Royals return to action tomorrow against Anderson University at 2 p.m. when the team hosts its annual Camper Day. Any Queens Camper that attends the match will receive free admission at the gate.
