No. 9/6 Queens Opens 2nd Half of SAC Slate at Anderson on Saturday

Royals hold two-game lead in SAC standings, have won 10-straight vs. Trojans

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The No. 9/6 Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team (18-2, 10-0 SAC) opens the second half of the South Atlantic Conference's double-round robin schedule on Saturday at Anderson University  (11-7, 5-5 SAC). Opening tipoff from the Abney Athletic Center is scheduled for 4 p.m.

In the season's first meeting on Dec. 1, the Royals held off a late comeback effort to top the Trojans, 79-77, after once leading by 14 points. On Saturday, Queens and Anderson will meet for the 40th time, with the Royals holding a 30-9 all-time edge. Queens has won each of the last 10 meetings.

-Last time out, Shaun Willett recorded his 17th double-double and Lewis Diankulu recorded his fifth double-double as the No. 9/6 Queens led wire-to-wire in a 95-71 win over Wingate University on Wednesday night at the Levine Center. Willet led Queens with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Diankulu scored 17 with 10 rebounds.

-Wednesday's win stretched the Royals' winning streak to 13 games, which ties for the third-longest active streak in Division II. Queens has produced a winning streak of 12 games or more in each of the last four seasons. The Royals last lost a game on Nov. 24, versus Belmont Abbey College, 76-55, at the Levine Center.

-Entering the second half of the conference slate, Queens currently holds a two-game lead atop the League's standings, followed by Lincoln Memorial University (7-2) in second place, and Lenoir-Rhyne University (7-3) in third place.

-On Tuesday, Queens improved one spot to No. 9 in the NABC / Division II Rankings and held at No. 6 in the most recent edition of the D2SIDA Media Poll. The placement in the eighth official coaches' poll of the season, marks the 53rd consecutive week in which Queens has been featured in the poll dating back to Nov. 24, 2015, the first poll of the 2015-2016 season. The Royals have cracked the top-10 nationally in both polls during each of the last four seasons.

-With his 17th double-double on Wednesday versus Wingate, Willett maintained his NCAA lead (more than 1,200 institutions) for double-doubles this season. At the Division II level, Kendrick Colvin of Emmanuel College and Will Vorhees of Notre Dame College are tied for second with 12 double-doubles. In Division I, Davontae Cacok of the University of North Carolina Wilmington has 15, and in Division III, Garrisson Duvivier of Gordon College also has 15.

-Willett was named AstroTurf SAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 7-13, after averaging 25 points, 16 rebounds and one steal across two games. The award was Willett's first Player of the Week selection of his career, and the third time that a Queens player claimed the conference's weekly honor in five weeks.

-Willett currently ranks fourth in the SAC in scoring, averaging 19.0 points per game. He is first in the League in rebounding, and third nationally, with 12.0 rebounds per game.

-Carr is seventh in the SAC in scoring (16.6 PPG), fifth in assists (4.8 APG) and sixth in 3-point field goal percentage (45.0%).

-Diankulu is the League's third-leading rebounder with 7.9 boards per game and ranks third in field goal percentage (59.6%).

-Van Turner Jr. is third in 3-point shooting (46.4%) and his 70 made 3-pointers ranks him tied for the lead nationally in 3-point field goals made this season.

-As a team, Queens is shooting 51.0 percent (No. 7 NCAA, No. 1 SAC) and 41.6 percent from three (No. 9 NCAA, No. 1 SAC).

-Head Coach Bart Lundy is in his sixth season since returning to Queens and his 11th overall at the helm in Charlotte. In 17 years as a head coach in Division I and II, Lundy has posted an overall record of 346-170 (.669 win pct.) and a record at Queens of 250-83 (.749 win pct.). Lundy has led Queens to all three of its Elite Eight appearances.
 
Anderson Trojans (11-7, 5-5 SAC)

-After losing three consecutive games, the Trojans have won three straight, including a home win over No. 24 Catawba College, 82-80, on Saturday, and most recently defeating Mars Hill University at home, 87-75, on Wednesday.

-Entering Saturday's game, Anderson is 9-1 at home, with its only setback at the hands of Lincoln Memorial University, 102-101, in double overtime on Dec. 12.

-The Trojans currently hold sixth place in the SAC standings, one game back of Wingate (6-4) and Catawba (6-4) who are tied for fourth.

-Gage Ellis (19.9 PPG) ranks second in the SAC in scoring and leads four Trojans who average double figures. In mid-December, Ellis was named SAC Player of the Week after averaging 31.5 points and 8.5 rebounds across two games.

-Randall Shaw (14.4 PPG) is the team's second-leading scorer. A former first-team all-conference selection, Shaw is fourth all-time in Anderson history with 1,533 career points.
