CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following a road win over the weekend, the Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team suffered a 67-60 setback at the hands of rival Wingate University on Wednesday night inside Curry Arena.
Wingate (13-4, 8-2 SAC) score the game's first four points en route to an eight-point advantage after one quarter of play. However, the Royals (6-10, 1-9 SAC) outscored the Bulldogs 18-11 in the second period and trailed by just one point at intermission.
The Bulldogs took control early in the second half, opening the third quarter on a 7-0 run before a 3-pointer from Queens senior
Ceara Leavai cut the deficit to five with just over seven minutes to play.

Jaleah Goff, but the Bulldogs closed the period on a13-6 run to build a double-digit lead.
Wingate's lead grew to as large as 12 points midway through the fourth and final quarter as the Royals were able to cut the lead to single digits on another Leavai 3-pointer before time expired. Leavai finished the game with six points, making both of her long-range attempts.
The Royals were able to force Wingate to commit 25 turnovers, scoring 22 points off of the miscues. However, the Bulldogs held a sizeable 42-23 edge in total rebounds and scored 21 second chance points.
Freshman
Jaymi Golden led the Royals with 11 points as well as four rebounds, while senior
Lade Adepoju chipped in 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Goff finished the night with eight points in just 10 minutes of play after making her return from a four-game absence.
Queens has a rematch with conference foe Anderson University (S.C.) on Saturday, January 26 at 2 p.m. in Anderson, S.C. in their next contest.
