CHARLOTTE – Heavy rain poured down throughout the night and play got stopped in the first half due to weather, but the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (5-1-1; 2-0) exited Dickson Field on Wednesday after making a statement, as the Royals went toe-to-toe with the undefeated and tenth-ranked Lander Bearcats (6-0-1) in a match that ended in a 0-0 tie after double overtime.
Queens took its four-game winning streak into the night and refused to back down from its toughest test of the season, controlling much of the game against its nationally ranked opponent. The Bearcats, who entered the match averaging 19.3 shots per, were held to a total of only six shots thanks to a dominate Royals defense.
For the Royals, they outshot the Bearcats 9-6, and put two shots on goal while limiting Lander to only one single shot on goal throughout 110 minutes of game play.
