CHARLOTTE – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (5-1; 2-0) entered the day leading the South Atlantic Conference in total goals scored and goals scored per game. At the conclusion of Wednesday, those leads will be cemented, as the Royals trounced the Indians of Catawba (1-4; 0-2) by a final score of 8-2 at Dickson Field.
The eight goals scored by Queens is the most goals scored for the program in a single game since Nov. 2, 2005, when it also scored eight against Barton. The eight-goal mark falls one short of the program record (9), which happened all the way back on Nov. 1, 2003 against Anderson University.
The Royals, who have now won four consecutive games, have combined for a whopping 18 goals over the course of their four-game winning streak. They have outscored opponents by a combined total of 19-7 this season and have now scored at least three goals in four games.
Against Catawba, seven different players found the back of the net for Queens, with
Edmundo Robinson leading the way with two goals. The six other goal scorers included
Pedro Oliveira,
Alberto Morales,
Nick Aparicio,
Adam Ward,
Austin Clamon and
Louis Goldsack.
Of the seven goal scorers, five of them scored their first goal of the season in Oliveira, Aparicio, Ward, Clamon and Goldsack.
For Morales, his goal was a team-leading fourth of the season, and he has now scored in four-straight games, while Robinson's two goals puts him at a total of three for the year.
The Royals' eight goals came on only 11 total shots, and all eight shots on goal found the back of the net. On the flip side, Queens goalkeeper
Sebastian Kalk made four saves, including a point-blank save in the game's eighth minute after Catawba's Hunter Faust found himself with a one-on-one opportunity that Kalk denied.
Queens will take its four-game winning streak into its next matchup one week from now at home against Lander University. Kickoff for that game is slated for 7:30 p.m. from Dickson Field in Charlotte.
