Queens Falls on the Road to Trojans

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C.  – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team picked up a 13-12 loss this afternoon at the University of Mount Olive. The Royals now sit 5-8 on the year after falling in the nonconference game while the Trojans improve to 11-3.
 
Hanna Scott led Queens with five goals on the day while Katie Wardle added two goals and six assists. Allison Conn and Kyleigh Masteran added two goals apiece. Cammy Case totaled seven ground balls, four caused turnovers, and two draw controls. Goalkeeper Chase Brokaw also finished with seven ground balls to go along with 11 saves.
 
After scoring a man-up goal at 16:06 in the first, the Trojans took a 4-3 lead over Queens. However, five unanswered goals followed putting the Royals in front 8-4 with 1:45 on the clock. Mount Olive's Michaela Ciciarelli then scored a goal with 11 seconds on the clock to give the game an 8-5 score at the half.
 
Queens moved ahead 11-6 in the second before a pair of goals from the Trojans made it a three-point game with 14:25 to play. Scott then found the back of the net at 13:13 for Queens to increase the Royals' lead to four, 12-8, but her goal would be the final of the day for the visitors as Mount Olive closed with five straight to take the one-point win.
 
Queens was edged in shots, 29-28, and in shots on goal, 24-22. The Royals also lost the battle for ground balls, 34-27, but won the battle at the draw, 15-12.
 
Jordan Shughrue and Kiara Burke each scored four goals while Ciciarelli totaled three goals. Jackie Kaderabek added two goals and four assists. Samantha Thomson totaled seven saves in 41:20 while Siena Miller totaled three saves in 18:40 for the win.
 
The Royals will look to bounce back in conference play when they welcome Mars Hill University to Dickson Field on Saturday, April 7. The Lions are a first-year program, so it will be the first meeting in program history between the pair. The game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
