Royals Close Regular Season with Win over Bulldogs

WINGATE, N.C.  – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team closed its regular season this afternoon with an 11-2 win over Wingate University. With the win, the Royals move to 9-8 on the year and 7-1 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Bulldogs now sit at 5-12 on the season and 4-4 in league action.
 
Allison Conn, Katy Miller, and Ally Blood each scored two goals in the win. Miller also recorded one assist to total three points along with Shannon Mansberger who recorded two assists and one goal. On the defensive end, Cammy Case tallied five ground balls and two caused turnovers along with three draw controls. Chase Brokaw picked up the win between the pipes after recording 10 saves.
 
Kyleigh Masteran opened the scoring this afternoon for Queens with a goal at 23:50. Blood soon followed with a pair to put the Royals in front, 3-0, with 21:23 on the clock. The Royals then put two more on the board before the Bulldogs found the back of the net twice making the score 5-2 with 9:10 left to play in the half. Later, a goal from Mansberger at 4:48 would send the Royals to the locker room with a four-point lead, 6-2.
 
In the second half, Queens' defense held the Bulldogs scoreless while five more points were added their point total. Miller's two goals would come back-to-back in the period on feeds from Mansberger. Hanna Scott, Conn, and Rachel Perrett then scored the final three to give the Royals the nine-point win.  
 
Queens outshot the Bulldogs, 30-19, putting 26 shots on goal to Wingate's 12 shots on goal. The Royals also edged Wingate in ground balls, 21-19, and in draw controls, 9-6.
 
Morgan Akers and Kendall Wells scored one goal apiece for the Bulldogs. Arion Pierre took the loss in goal after recording 15 saves and 10 ground balls.
 
The Royals have a bye in the first round of the SAC Championships which begin with the quarterfinals on Tuesday, April 24. They will play in the semifinals on Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. The semifinals and finals will take place on the campus of Wingate University while the quarterfinals will be hosted by the higher seeds.
