WINGATE, N.C. – Second-seeded Queens University of Charlotte moves on to the South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship finals for the fifth-straight year after defeating third-seeded Catawba College, 16-6, this evening in the semifinal round. The Royals advance to the final with a 10-8 record while the Indians' season comes to a close at 11-8.
Allison Conn led the Royals with a season-high four goals while
Katie Wardle recorded four points on three goals and one assist.
Taylor Quade also added four points on three goals and one assist and
Ally Blood,
Shannon Mansberger, and
Hanna Scott each chipped in with two goals.
The Royals scored 10 unanswered goals to start the game and enforce the running clock with 12:23 left to play in the first half. Erin Green of Catawba would stop the Royals' run with a goal at 8:21, but a pair of Queens goals followed to give the game a 12-1 score at the halftime break.
The Royals then coasted to victory in the second half thanks to their dominant play in the opening half. They would add four additional goals to the board while the Indians added five.
Queens outshot Catawba, 39-17, putting 30 shots on goal to the Indians' 13 shots on frame. Queens also led in ground balls, 16-8, and in draw controls, 14-8.
Green and Imani Grays each scored two goals for the Indians. Madison Anselmo took the loss in goal after recording 14 saves.
Queens will be making its fifth-straight appearance in the SAC Championship final after winning its fourth consecutive title a season ago. They will face top-seeded Lenoir-Rhyne University who handed them their first SAC loss in program history during the regular season. The game will take place at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 29 at Graham Gill Field on the campus of Wingate University.
