PHILIPPI, W.VA.– The Queens University of Charlotte men's volleyball team began postseason play on Friday afternoon, suffering a 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-20) loss to Lincoln Memorial University inside Rex Pyles Arena on the campus of Alderson Broaddus University.
The fourth-seeded Royals (8-20) struggled offensively, hitting .014, their second-lowest mark of the season. The No. 1 seed Railsplitters hit .356 as a unit and collected 10 total blocks at the net.
Lincoln Memorial jumped out to an early 10-3 lead before Queens responded with five unanswered points to close the gap to a two-point margin. The deficit reached six points following a4-0 run from LMU as the Railsplitters secured the set win with three straight points down the stretch.
In the second set, Queens was held to a .000 hitting percentage while the Railplitters hit .478 on offense with just one error to build a 2-0 match lead.
The two sides traded points in the early part of the third set, however, Lincoln Memorial used a 7-2 run to build a five-point lead over the Royals. Queens kept the set close and got within two points of the LMU lead, but the Railsplitters held on to build a 24-17 advantage.
Queens looked to put together a late rally following three consecutive errors by Lincoln Memorial, but a Royals' attack error gave LMU the match win.
Freshman
Tristan Santoyo led the Royals with six kills and hit .286, while fellow freshman
Aleksandar Perisic recorded five kills and a .333 hitting mark to go along with three total blocks.
The Royals will await the result of tonight's other semifinal matchup to determine their opponent in tomorrow's consolation match, which begins at Noon.
