Queens Falls to No. 1 Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla.  – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team completed its Florida road trip at No. 1 Florida Southern this afternoon falling 15-6 to the Mocs. The Royals now sit 1-4 on the year after facing three top-10 opponents so far this season. The Mocs remain undefeated at 7-0 on the year.

Queens was led offensively by Ally Blood and Kyleigh Masteran this afternoon. The pair combined for four goals scoring two apiece. Scott would find the back of the net first beating her defender on the attack for a shot that zipped past Florida Southern's goalie and into the back of the net. Masteran then followed a little over two minutes later with an unassisted goal to tie the game. Florida Southern answered the Royals' spurt with two more goals to pull ahead, 4-2, but a goal from Blood at 10:06 would cut the margin back to one, 4-3. The Mocs' Shannon Mazza then scored on a free position shot to give her team a 5-3 lead at the halftime break. Three of Florida Southern's goals in the half were scored on free position shots.

Florida Southern extended its lead to four, 7-3, scoring back-to-back goals within 35 seconds of each other. Masteran would have an answer for the Mocs at 19:02 after receiving a pass from Scott, but Florida Southern then scored six unanswered goals to take a 13-4 lead with 8:19 left to play. Quade's goal interrupted the Mocs' run at 6:21, and the 13-5 score held until Meghan O'Brien of Florida Southern scored back-to-back goals within 42 seconds of each other. Blood would score the final goal of the day with 34 seconds on the clock to give the game its final score.

Queens was outshot 37-16 by the Mocs, putting 12 shots on goal to Florida Southern's 26 shots on frame. The Royals also recorded 20 ground balls and six draw controls as a team while the Mocs tallied 26 ground balls and 17 draw controls.

The Mocs were led by O'Brien who totaled four goals and one assist for five points. Sarah Grady, Emily Santoli, and Mazza added two goals each, while Shannon Gilfedder, Casey O'Brien, Riley Bannatyne, and Catherine DeKorte each recorded one goal and one assist for two points apiece. Mary Gately took the win in goal after totaling six saves.

Queens will be back in action at home on Monday, March 12 when they welcome No. 14 West Chester to Dickson Field.
