Queens Tops Cavaliers for Second-Straight Win

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  –
The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team, currently ranked 17th nationally, shut out UVA-Wise in the second half of this afternoon's game to win 14-4 over the Cavaliers. The Royals move to 4-7 on the year after picking up the non-conference win while the Cavaliers fall to 5-3 on the season.
 
Hanna Scott led the Royals with six points after totaling three goals and two assists. Allison Conn and Katie Wardle also scored three goals each. Taylor Quade added two goals and two assists while Sydney Lear scored two goals and tallied one assist. Ally Blood chipped in with one goal and two assists.
 
Defensively, Cammy Case totaled five caused turnovers and six ground balls. Maggie Fabean added four caused turnovers. Chase Brokaw collected the win in goal after totaling six saves.
 
After the Cavaliers scored the first goal of today's game with 26:16 on the clock, Queens responded with three in a row to take a 3-1 lead with 20:14 left in the first half. The Cavaliers followed with three of their own to take a 4-3 lead at 12:49, but the Royals once again had an answer scoring four unanswered goals to close the period. Queens would take a 7-4 lead into the locker room.
 
In the second, the Royals' defense kept the Cavaliers scoreless as Queens put seven additional points on the board to secure its second victory in two days.
 
Queens outshot UVA-Wise 30-14, putting 22 shots on goal to the Cavaliers' 10 shots on frame. The Royals also won 12 draw controls and led in ground balls, 22-17.
 
The Cavaliers were led by McKayla Graham who scored two goals. Goalkeeper Melanie Reilly finished with eight saves.
 
The Royals will have about a week off before traveling to face Coker College on Saturday, Mar. 31. Last season, Queens defeated the Cobras, 17-10, at home. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
