Royals Dominate Pioneers for Home Win

CHARLOTTE, N.C.  – The Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team, currently ranked 17th nationally, defeated Tusculum College at home this afternoon by a score of 23-4. The win moves the Royals' record to 2-1 in South Atlantic Conference play at 3-7 on the year. The Pioneers move to 2-8 on the year and 0-2 in league play 
 
Hanna Scott led the Royals with five goals and three assists while Katie Wardle added four goals and two assists. Allison Conn and Sydney Lear both recorded hat tricks while Taylor Quade and Ally Blood chipped in with two goals each.  Jasmin Singh, Rachel Perrett, Jordan Brown, and Hayley Anna also scored in the win.
 
After Tusculum's Megann McKinney scored the first goal of the day at 29:06, Queens scored 14 goals in a row to take over today's game and engage the running clock. The Royals took the 14-1 lead into the break.
 
Queens then opened the second half with a pair of goals before Tusculum found the back of the net at 24:13 to end the Royals' run at 16 straight goals. The Royals then put seven more points on the board before the end of regulation while allowing just two more from the Pioneers.
 
Queens outshot Tusculum 39-13, putting 29 shots on goal compared to the Pioneers' 10 shots on goal. Queens also totaled 20 ground balls to Tusculum's nine and won the battle at the draw, 16-11. Chase Brokaw earned the win in goal after totaling four saves. Sara Mitrecic also saw time in goal recording two saves.
 
Emily Gleason led the Pioneers with two goals while Eliza Ryan and McKinney totaled one goal apiece. Brooke Wagner and Kaele Lawless both spent time in goal to combine for six saves.
 
Queens will be back at home tomorrow at noon hosting UVA-Wise in a non-conference game. This will be the first meeting in program history between the Royals and the Cavaliers who are coached by former Queens head coach Meghan Dennehy.
