CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Queens University of Charlotte's
Vincent Schneider holds the lead in the decathlon after the first day of competition at the 49er Classic hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center on Thursday. Through five events, Schneider has totaled 3,605 points and has a lead of 202 points on Matt Przybocki of Edinboro University in second.
The senior placed top-3 in each leg of the decathlon contested on Thursday. On the track, he finished first in the 100-meter dash recording a time of 11.25 seconds and first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.44 seconds.
In field events, Schneider placed first in the shot put with a throw of 11.76 meters, second in the long jump with a mark of 6.82 meters, and third in the high jump clearing the bar at 1.87 meters.
The final five events of the decathlon will be held on Friday, March 16, beginning with the 110-meter hurdles at 9 a.m.
Schneider was the only member of the track and field program to compete on Thursday. The entire team will return to action on Friday.
