NEWBERRY, S.C. -- The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team defeated Newberry College Wednesday in a South Atlantic Conference matchup, winning 7-2 at the Oakland Tennis Center.
The Royals swept doubles play to take an early 3-0 lead heading into singles play.
Sebastian Meum and
Agustin Aran Martin tallied Queens' first point winning their matchup 8-2 to take the No. 1 spot.
Andor Vas and
Kasper Rolfsen took the No. 2 spot winning 8-4 over the Southeast Region's 10th-ranked duo of Edison Ambarzumjan and Jose Navarro, while
Julian Bosch and
Joel Dunlap sealed the third point for the Royals, winning 8-5 in the No. 3 spot.
In singles play, Bosch, the region's 16th-ranked singles player, was the first to finish for the Royals winning in just two sets, 6-2, 6-4 over Navarro, the region's No. 11 singles player. Aran Martin followed with a victory at the No. 1 spot, winning his matchup 6-3, 7-6 after holding off a late charge in the second set from Ambarzumjan who is ranked No. 9 in the Southeast.
Vas won his three-set matchup in the No. 3 spot 6-2, 0-6, 6-4, as Queens' last point came from
Joel Dunlap's matchup where he won 8-5 in the No. 5 position.
The Royals will host Lincoln Memorial University next in another South Atlantic Conference matchup on Saturday, March 17. Play will begin at Noon at the Queens Sports Complex.
