SAVANNAH, Ga.  – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team fell to No. 16 Saint Leo University this afternoon by a score of 13-7. The Royals now sit 2-3 on the year while the Lions improve to 5-1. Â

Queens outshot the Lions 43-35, putting 24 shots on goal compared to Saint Leo's 23 shots on goal. However, Saint Leo's Thomas Tatarian would record 17 saves in the game to grab the win in goal. The Royals also won the battle for ground balls, 38-26. Â

Seven Royals scored in the game as Max Costello,
Eric Fitz,
Reed Murphy,
Jesse Oliver, Tyler Redpath,
Justin Swick, and Quinn Tallant each found the back of the net.
Drew Flack won 16-of-24 face-offs and totaled nine ground balls.
Anthony Valenza took the loss in goal after recording 10 saves.

Trailing 2-0 in the first quarter, Queens fought back to knot the game at 2-2 heading into the second. Murphy would score first at 6:52 to cut the Royals' deficit to one before Fitz and Stechmiller teamed up at 4:38 to tie the game.

Queens was then outscored in the second quarter, 6-2, to head into the locker room trailing the Lions, 8-4.

Out of the break, the Lions scored a pair in the third ahead of Oliver finding the back of the net to cut the margin to six, 11-5.

In the fourth, both teams added two points to their team's total with Swick getting things going at nine minutes with an unassisted goal. Saint Leo's Philip Buque and Jake Gilmour followed before Tallant scored the game's final goal at 2:22.

Gilmour led the Lions with three goals and one assist while Kyle Pauwels added two goals and two assists. Zach Lysyk totaled two goals and one assist and Charlie Kurtenbach recorded one goal and two assists.

Queens will begin South Atlantic Conference play on the road at Lincoln Memorial University on Saturday, March 17. The Royals fell to the Railsplitters last season by a score of 11-5. Saturday's game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
