NORTH GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team grabbed its first victory of the year coming from behind to defeat North Greenville University, 8-7. The Royals now sit 1-1 on the year while the Crusaders fall to 2-1.  Â

Reed Murphy scored today's game-winning goal with 3:42 left in regulation. He finished play with two goals along with Quinn Tallant and David Byrne. Kevin Barry also recorded two points after tallying one goal and one assist. Defensively,
Zac Bruso and Kealan Pilon each recorded a caused turnover while
Kyle Hornik and
Anthony Valenza split time in the net recording a combined total of 13 saves.

Today's game would be one of two halves as the Royals found themselves trailing 6-3 at the break. After opening the game with the first goal of the day, the Royals fell behind 3-1 thanks to three consecutive goals from the Crusaders. The two teams then traded goals to give the game a 4-2 score in North Greenville's favor at the end of the first quarter.

Both teams had a hard time putting the ball in the back of the net in the second most likely due to weather conditions as Tallant scored the first goal of the period at 3:19 to close the gap to one, 4-3. However, a pair of goals would follow for North Greenville just before the half helping the Crusaders extend their lead to three heading into the locker room.

Queens came alive in the third quarter putting three points on the board as the Crusaders went scoreless. With the game tied at 6-6 at the beginning of the fourth, North Greenville's Alex Proly would put his team back on top with a goal at 14:49. They then held the lead until Tallant teamed up with
Mackenzie Tallant to score his second goal of the day at 6:06 knotting the game once more at 7-7. Murphy then scored the game-winner at 3:42.

Queens was outshot 36-25, as the Royals put 14 shots on frame compared to North Greenville's 20 shots on goal. The Crusaders also won the battle for ground balls, 22-17.

Proly and Hunter Burgett led the Crusaders with two goals each. Goalkeeper Braeden Dixon totaled six saves in the loss.

The Royals will remain on the road for their game next week when they travel to the University of Mount Olive on Saturday, Feb. 24. Queens faced the 12
th-ranked Trojans last year in the final regular season game winning 11-10. Face-off is set for 1 p.m.
