MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's lacrosse team grabbed its second win of the year this afternoon defeating No. 11 Mount Olive on the road. The win helps the Royals improve to 2-1 on the year while the Trojans drop to 3-1 after being handed their first loss of the season. Â

Freshman Kevin Barry led Queens with two goals while
Eric Fitz, Justin Metzger, Kealan Pilon, and McKenzie Tallant each added one goal. In the circle,
Drew Flack won 9-of-15 face-offs.

Barry would get the Royals on the board first today with a goal in the first quarter at 11:45. Jacob Ball of Mount Olive was able to match his score at 6:26, and the game remained tied until the end of the period.

In the second, Fitz put Queens back in front with a goal at 8:53, but the Trojans had an answer once again scoring just before the break to knot things up at 2-2 at halftime.

Queens took over the game in the third outscoring the Trojans, 3-1. Metzger would find the back of the net first in the period before Mount Olive's Thatcher Clark tied the game up again. However, Tallant and Pilon answered with back-to-back goals in the final 3:05 to take the Royals into the fourth with a 5-3 lead.

A goal from Ball of Mount Olive early in the fourth cut the Royals' lead to one, 5-4, but Queens' Barry scored his second of the day at 10:39 to provide some insurance for the visiting team. Ball would net another to cut the Royals' lead to one, 6-5, at 7:42 but that was as close as the Royals would allow the Trojans to get as
Anthony Valenza made three saves in the closing minutes of action. Â Â

Queens edged the Trojans in shots, 28-27, putting 17 shots on goal this afternoon. Valenza completed play in goal totaling 11 saves.

Ball led the Trojans with three goals While Clark and Brody Sullivan each scored one goal. Will Urban recorded 11 saves in the loss.

The Royals will return home to Dickson Field on Thursday, March 1 when they welcome No. 10 Belmont Abbey College to the Queens Sports Complex. Face-off is set for 7 p.m.
