PINEVILLE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte baseball team extended its winning streak to six games with a doubleheader sweep of Montreat College JV on Tuesday in the program's home opener at Jack Hughes Park.
The Royals collected a 10-3 win in the first game, followed by a 12-5 victory in game two as the team totaled 21 hits and seven stolen bases on the afternoon.
Game One: Queens 10, Montreat JV 3
The first game of the doubleheader saw the Royals get out to an early 5-0 lead through two innings before the Cavaliers tallied two runs in the third to get on the scoreboard.
One run in the four and another in the fifth preceded a three-run sixth for Queens to extend the lead to 10-2. Montreat's final run came in the seventh on a solo home run.
Junior
Ryan Dudney was 2-for-3 in the game with a double and three runs scored, while freshman
Justin Sponseller was also 2-for-3 with a double of his own and three RBI. Sophomore
Dominic Ford also had a two-hit game, as junior
Chase Hager finished 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Kollin Schrenk got the start for Queens on the mound in the day's first game and went three innings, allowing two runs on one hit with three walks and three strikeouts. Freshman
Christian Huggins (2-0) picked up his second win of the year after two no-hit innings of relief with one strikeout.
Freshman
Adam Hartle allowed two hits in his lone inning of work, while fellow freshman
Wes Boling gave up one run on one hit in the seventh and final inning.
Game Two: Queens 12, Montreat JV 5
The Royals relied on the left-arm of junior
Jack Bergren (2-0) in the second game of the day, as the Chicago, Ill. native registered his second win of the season. Bergren tossed four innings and allowed just two hits while striking out eight batters.
A two-run first inning gave the Queens pitching staff early run support, followed by a six-run third and a four-run fourth that concluded the scoring for the Royals. Montreat battled back to five runs across the final three innings but could not complete its comeback effort.
Sponseller allowed three runs on one hit with two walks and two strikeouts in an inning of work on the mound, while junior
Max Fries threw one inning without allowing a hit and recording a strikeout. Freshman
Drew Meschede got the ball in the final inning for Queens, allowing two runs on three hits with three strikeouts.
Freshman
Austin Campbell was a perfect 2-for-2 in the game with a walk, one run scored and an RBI, while fellow freshman
Aaron Douglas was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
Ford finished the game 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI, two walks, two runs scored and three stolen bases, and freshman
Anthony Orta was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI of his own.
Queens remains at home as it welcomes Guilford Technical Community College to Jack Hughes Park for a doubleheader on Saturday, February 17. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
