Postgame Interview with Sarah Jansen
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Trojans of Anderson University (S.C.) used a second half tally to defeat the Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team 73-52 inside Curry Arena on Saturday afternoon in the Royals' South Atlantic Conference home opener.
The Royals (3-3, 0-2) and Trojans (5-2, 2-0) were knotted in a 32-32 after the first half of play as Queens held the potent Anderson offense to just 30.8 percent shooting across the opening two quarters.
Queens and Anderson remained in a closely contested battle throughout much of the third quarter before the Trojans ended the half with five unanswered points to claim a five-point lead heading into the final period. Anderson outscored Queens 26-10 in the final quarter and shot 68.8 percent from the floor to pull away for the win.
Senior
Lade Adepoju led all Royals with her second double-double of the year, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Fellow senior
Carolina Bernardeco followed with 11 points, four assists, and four steals, while sophomore
Kristian Eanes had eight points and four rebounds of her own. Freshman
Jaleah Goff provided five points and seven rebounds in 15 minutes off of the bench.
Queens will remain at home for their next game, a non-conference contest against Augusta University of the Peach Belt Conference on Wednesday, December 5 at 6 p.m.
