BELMONT, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team traveled to Belmont Abbey College this afternoon to close the home-and-home series with the Crusaders. Queens lost the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas game, 3-1, bringing its overall record to 7-9 on the year and its league record to 5-4. The Crusaders improved to 5-9 on the season and 5-4 in conference play.
Hanna Nechay scored the Royals' lone goal of the day after leading Queens in shots on goal with two. The junior forward would find the back of the cage in the 67
th minute to prevent a shutout by the Crusaders.
Victoria Tredinnick recorded her third point of the season assisting on the goal.
Belmont Abbey's Mia Maminski got her squad going in today's game with a goal at minute 28 off of a rebounded shot. Katana Cawley of the Crusaders soon followed with another in the 31
st to give Belmont Abbey a 2-0 lead, which they held until the halftime break.
The Crusaders third goal of the game was scored in the 62
nd minute by Sophie Fuege. It would come just a few minutes before Nechay scored the match's final point.
Queens was outshot 14-7 as four different Crusaders placed two shots on goal each. For the game, Belmont Abbey totaled 12 shots on goal compared to the Royals' four.

Jet van den Berg played all 70 minutes in the cage recording eight saves.
The Royals will close the regular season on Saturday at Newberry College. The second game of the home-and-home series with the Wolves is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m.
