CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team claimed its second win a row on Wednesday night, defeating the visiting Warriors of Southern Wesleyan University 81-62 inside Curry Arena on Military Appreciation Night.
The 2-0 start to begin the season is the first of its kind since the 2012-13 season. That same year, Queens made its final appearance in the Conference Carolinas Tournament before moving to the South Atlantic Conference.
Following a first half that saw Queens hold a seven-point lead at intermission, the Royals extended the lead to an 11-point advantage after consecutive layups from sophomore
Kristian Eanes and senior
Lade Adepoju.
Southern Wesleyan (1-2) cut the deficit back to single digits with 1:32 remaining in the third quarter, but back-to-back 3-pointers from Eanes and senior
Carolina Bernardeco put the Royals ahead 60-47 going into the final quarter of action. In the fourth quarter, Queens was in control throughout to claim its second home victory of the young season.
Queens shot 46.2 percent from the field in the win and held a 43-36 edge in total rebounds, while forcing the Warriors to 29 total turnovers.
Individually, freshman
Jaymi Golden led all players with 16 points to go along with three steals, while Eanes followed with 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Freshman
Jaleah Goff was the final Royal in double figures, totaling 12 points as well as seven rebounds and four steals. Adepoju narrowly missed a double-double, finishing with eight points and eight rebounds.
The Royals continue their three-game homestand to open the year on Saturday, Nov. 17 when the team hosts regional power Limestone College inside Curry Arena at 2 p.m.
