Championship Information
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team is scheduled to face Belmont Abbey College for the third time this season in the semifinal round of the South Atlantic Conference Championships on Friday, November 16. Top-seeded Limestone College will serve as the tournament host in Gaffney, South Carolina.
Both teams advanced to tournament play after tying for second in the league with 6-4 conference records. The Crusaders were awarded the second seed spot by way of the conference's tie-breaker rules, and Queens was named the No. 3 seed. Queens leads the all-time series, 4-2.
During the regular season, the Royals and the Crusaders split the home-and-home series with Queens winning 3-1 at home on September 22.
Millie Eaton-Jones,
Mette Beekman, and
Carey Karl each recorded goals in the win, while
Paige Ramsey and
Renee Smith each tallied assists. Demetria Barrow scored the lone goal for the Crusaders in the game.
Conversely, Belmont Abbey picked up a 3-1 win on their home field on November 7. Mia Maminski, Katana Cawley, and Sophia Fuege each scored for the Crusaders while
Hanna Nechay and
Victoria Tredinnick teamed up for the Royals' only goal of the day.
This season,
Mazvita Mtisi leads the Royals with 33 points on 14 goals and five assists.
Karla von Ehren follows with 15 points on six goals and three assists while
Jill Sherman, Eaton-Jones, Smith, and Nechay each have 12 points. In goal,
Jet van den Berg is 6-6 on the year after playing over 887 minutes and accumulating 67 saves.
The Crusaders are led by Barrow's eight points this season on three goals and two assists. Fuege follows with seven points on two goals and three assists, and three others have six points. Goalkeeper Paige Hinds is 6-9 on the year with 70 saves.
Friday's game will take place at 6:30 p.m. following the semifinal match between No. 1 Limestone and No. 4 Coker. The championship will take place on Sunday, November 18 at 2 p.m.
