CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Playing an early afternoon makeup match after a postponement earlier in its schedule, the Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team (9-4-1; 6-3 SAC) fell to Lincoln Memorial, 2-1, at Dickson Field.
The Railsplitters scored an early goal in the 17th minute before playing back for the majority of the match to limit the high-powered offense of the Royals.
Queens, who entered the match first in the South Atlantic Conference in scoring offense and total points, was held without a goal until the 70th minute when
Omer Okyar stepped up and buried a penalty kick for the equalizer.
For Okyar, a senior defenseman playing in his last regular season game at home, it was his fourth goal of the season.
However, the Royals were called for a foul in the box just over seven minutes later, and Victor Peres scored on a penalty kick of his own for the game-winning goal and his league-leading 13th of the season.
Queens, led by
Alberto Morales and
Kieran Gore with two shots apiece, finished with eight shots and only one on goal. Lincoln Memorial had seven of its 12 shots on goal despite Queens holding a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Royals' goalkeeper
Sebastian Kalk finished with five saves, tied for his third-most in a match this season.
After playing its final regular season game at home, Queens will finish off its schedule with a match at Mars Hill on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m.
