CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team took on the Limestone Saints tonight in their second nonconference match up of the season with the game ending in a 1-1 tie. Both the Royals and the Saints now sit at 1-0-1 on the year.
The Saints opened with an early goal coming from Conor Young in the 5th minute of play. Queens worked to even the match seeing two scoring opportunities in the first half from
Alberto Morales and
Adam Ward but both shots would go wide leaving Limestone up 1-0 at the half.
Queens' best chance to even the score would come in the second half when
Edmundo Robinson rebounded a header from
Keegan Burton that went wide. Robinson would head the ball into the back of the net for what the Royals thought was a goal. However, the shot would be reversed due to an offsides call.
In the 81
st minute, Limestone's goalkeeper took down Robinson in the box resulting in a foul and a penalty kick for the Royals. Omer Okyar stepped up to take the shot, and he would record his first goal of the season tying the game up at 1-1. The score then remained tied until the final horn sending the game into overtime.
The first overtime period would start with a red card being issued to the Saints' Ruairi Croskery one minute into play forcing Limestone to complete the game a man down. The ten minutes then expired with only one shot on goal by Queens' Robinson.
The second overtime period was much like the first seeing only one shot coming from Limestone's offense.
