CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team extended its record to 4-3-2 tonight shutting out Barton College (2-6), 2-0, in a non-conference match.Â

Michael Hornsby set the Royals up for their first goal of the night when he took a free kick that deflected off of Edmundo Robinson and was finished by Keegan Burton 11 minutes into play. Queens kept the pressure high for the remainder of the half, accumulating six shots on goal, but were unable to net another before entering the break up, 1-0.

The Royals started the second half getting two quick shots off before finishing on a third. Hornsby delivered a corner into the box that Robinson was able to get his head on and put in the back of the net, setting the score at 2-0 in the 50th minute. Two minutes later Queens was put in the same situation but this time Robinson's shot would go high and play would continue.

In the 64th minute the Bulldogs goalkeeper, Jens Madsen Hordvick, fouled Robinson inside the box. The Queens forward set up for the penalty kick but it was saved, holding the score at 2-0. The Royals got two more shot attempts off before time ran out, handing them the win.

Queens totaled 10 shots on goal to Barton's five. Robinson led the attack with three shots on goal. He was followed by Hornsby, Caio Maciel, and Juan Carlos Carrillo who each had two apiece. Royals goalkeeper, Sergio Lemus, recorded five saves to help lead the Royals to their first shutout of the season.

Queens returns home on Saturday, September 30 to face Lenoir-Rhyne in a SAC matchup. Last season the Royals fell to the Bears 3-0. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Queens Sports Complex.
