ST. CHARLES, Mo. - The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team collected a 6-3 win today over Bellarmine University in a neutral match between the two programs. The Royals improve to 2-5 on the regular season while Bellarmine drops to 2-6 on the year.
 
Renee Smith led the Royals with three goals while 
Maya Forbes followed with a pair. 
Abby Carls added one goal. 
Kayleigh Lawrence totaled two assists, while 
Jill Sherman, 
Mazvita Mtisi, and Victoria Hood each notched one assist.
 
Smith tallied two goals in the opening half of play to put the Royals in front, 2-0, at the break. She then tallied her third to record her first hat trick of the season in the 49
th. Queens' third point followed a goal from Bellarmine's Madi Isom giving the game a 3-1 score.
 
The two teams then traded goals over a short five-minute span which ended with another score from Bellarmine's Isom in the 54
th. The point would bring the Knights within one of Queens, 4-3, but that was as close as they would get as Forbes and Carls of Queens closed the game putting a couple of shots in the back of the cage to secure the 6-3 Queens win.
 
Queens was outshot 17-14 by Bellarmine, putting nine shots on goal to the Knights' 11. 
Miranda Childers totaled six saves in 64:15 for the Royals, while Heather Gregory of Bellarmine recorded three saves.
 
Queens is back at home on Wednesday, September 27 when they will welcome Limestone College to Bessant Field. The Royals were 0-2 against the Saints last season falling 3-0 in the home matchup. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
