CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte field hockey team opened their season today falling 7-2 to No. 8 Bloomsburg University. Today's game was also the first official game played on Bessant Field.

Mazvita Mtisi scored the first official goal for the Royals on Bessant Field in the 81
st minute of play, while
Kayleigh Lawrence scored the Royals' second goal in the 85
th minute.
Kelsey Fringer totaled nine saves in the cage for Queens.

Bloomsburg outshot the Royals 17-2 in the first half of today's game, taking a 4-0 lead heading into the break. The Huskies then opened the second half with a pair of goals to move ahead 6-0 before Queens' Mtisi and Lawrence scored back-to-back points for the home team. Bloomsburg would find their final goal of the day off of a penalty corner in the 67
th minute to give the game its final score of 7-2.

The Royals were outshot 28-9 as Bloomsburg put 17 shots on goal. The Huskies also won nine penalty corners to Queens' two.

Abby Sauder led Bloomsburg with two goals.

The Royals will be back in action on Monday, September 4 when they take on Slippery Rock University at Washington & Lee University. The game is scheduled to begin at noon.
