Queens Plays to 3-3 Draw with No. 13 Railsplitters

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team traveled to Harrogate, Tennessee today to face No. 13 Lincoln Memorial University, playing the Railsplitters to a 3-3 tie that put Queens at 2-2-2 on the season and 0-1-1 in the league. Lincoln Memorial's overall record now sits at 3-0-2 while their South Atlantic Conference record is 0-0-2.

Lincoln Memorial would score the first goal of the game 10 minutes into play off a header scored by Andres Pratto which was double assisted by Felipe de Sousa and Danila da Silva. The Royals got four chances to tie the score before half but could not finish as the period ended with the Railsplitters up, 1-0.

The second half started similarly to the first with a goal coming from Lincoln Memorial's da Silva off of a pass from Pratto in the 48th minute. Soon after, Queens answered with their first goal in the 52nd minute when the Railsplitters were called for a foul inside the box. Queens' Liam Doyle would take the penalty kick making the score 2-1 in favor of Lincoln Memorial.

The Railslplitters would collect their third goal of the day when Philip Wong received a long ball from Pratto and put it into the back of the net in the 66th minute. The Royals countered in the 69th minute when Keegan Burton took a shot that was saved by Railsplitters goalkeeper, Caleb Cothrin, but then knocked in by Queens' Edmundo Robinson setting the score at 3-2.

With two minutes left to play, the Royals' Alberto Morales scored the game-tying goal after making a move around his defender and placing his shot into the upper corner of the net. His goal knotted the score at 3-3, sending the game into overtime.

Queens and Lincoln Memorial would only get two shots off apiece in the two 10 minute overtime periods, but neither would find the back of the net before time expired.

The Royals were led on attack by Doyle who accumulated five shots on goal. Burton followed with two shots on goal and Michael Hornsby, Pedro Oliveira, Morales and Robinson each had one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Ben Wallace had six saves on the night.

The Royals return home this Wednesday, September 20 when they will play in their first South Atlantic Conference home game of the season against Tusculum College. Queens fell 1-0 in double overtime with the Pioneers last season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
