Robinson Scores Lone Goal in Loss to Wingate

WINGATE, N.C. - The Queens University of Charlotte men's soccer team opened up South Atlantic Conference play with a 4-1 loss to the defending NCAA Division II Men's Soccer National Champion Wingate University Bulldogs.  Wingate improves to 3-2 with the win while the Royals, currently ranked eighth in the region, tally their second loss of the season to sit 2-2-1.

Felipe Checco of the Bulldogs would open the scoring in the 22nd minute off of a through ball from Mateo Correa on the left side of the box where he would go on to beat Royals goalkeeper Ben Wallace.  Then the Bulldogs followed with another goal in the 28th minute when Vicente Munoz crossed the ball into the box that Elma N'For put away, increasing the Bulldogs lead to 2-0.  The Royals put up four shots in the first half but were unable to add one to the scoreboard before the break.

Queens' Edmundo Robinson put the Royals lone point of the night on the scoreboard in the 51st minute after he beat a defender on the right side of the box and then slipped the ball past Wingate goalkeeper Pablo Jara on the near post. About ten minutes after Robinson's goal, Wingate's N'For would slot another shot past Wallace on the inside post to put the Bulldogs up 3-1. In the 70th minute of play, the Bulldogs would close out the scoring for the night with a goal by Mattia Ditmmaso that was assisted by N'For.

Wallace finished the game with five saves to Jara's two. Robinson led the Royals' offense with two shots on goal while Carillo added one shot on goal.

The Royals will travel to Harrogate, Tenn., on Saturday, September 16 for their second league game of the season against No. 13 Lincoln Memorial University. Queens took the match last season with the Railsplitters by a score of 2-1 in overtime. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
