No. 8 Queens Blanks Bulldogs for Fourth Straight SAC Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The top-seeded Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team took on second-seeded Wingate University this evening in the South Atlantic Conference Championship walking away with their fourth straight conference regular-season and tournament titles. Queens defeated the Bulldogs 16-0 to improve to 16-3 on the year, while Wingate closes their season at 13-5.
 
Hanna Scott led the Royals with five goals and one assist and was named MVP following the game. Abigail Paulus scored four goals, while Ally Blood and Alexandra Bruder added two each. Kelly Dowd, Shannon Mansberger, and Sydney Lear each netting one goal. Dowd also recorded three assists, four ground balls, three caused turnovers and three draw controls.
 
The Royals dominated in the first half outscoring the Bulldogs 11-0 seeing five goals from Scott, three goals from Paulus, two goals from Blood and one goal from Bruder. Queens would pick up 10 ground balls to Wingate's four in the half and Dowd recorded three assists to start the game.
 
Queens continued their scoring frenzy with a goal just thirty seconds into the second half from Mansberger, making the score 12-0. Additionally, Bruder and Paulus would net a pair to extend their lead 14-0.
 
Dowd and Lear added a goal apiece to make the final score of the championship game 16-0.
 
Queens outshot Wingate 38-7 in the win, putting 34 shots on goal. The Royals also totaled 20 ground balls to Wingate's 11. Goalkeeper Chase Brokaw walked away with the win in the cage with five saves. Wingate's goalkeeper Arion Pierre recorded 19 saves in the loss.
 
Queens has yet to lose a SAC regular season game sitting at 30-0 in four years of competition. They are also undefeated in SAC Championship play at 8-0.
 
The NCAA DII Women's Lacrosse Championship selection show will take place Sunday, May 7 at 8 p.m.
