Royals Remain Undefeated in SAC Play with Win at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 8 Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team took care of business this afternoon topping the Tusculum College Pioneers, 22-8. Queens improves to 8-2 on the season, while moving to 4-0 in South Atlantic Conference play. The Tusculum Pioneers fall to 5-9 overall, and 3-3 in conference play.

The Royals were led this afternoon by Kelly Dowd who recorded eight points on four goals and four assists. Dowd also totaled four draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers in the win. In addition, four different players recorded hat tricks on the day. The committee included Ally Blood, Alexandra Bruder, Abigail Paulus, and Hanna Scott. Shannon Mansberger followed with five points on two goals and three assists. Sarah Bell recorded two goals, while Rachel Perrett and Aarika Kaester netted one goal apiece. Chase Brokaw took the win in the cage after totaling six saves.

A goal from Tusculum's Hayley Bartlett gave the Pioneers their only lead in today's game at the 28:17 mark in the opening half as a 10-0 run by the Royals followed over the course of the next nine minutes. The run would put the Pioneers in a hole they would never dig their way out of as Queens led 10-1 with 19:11 remaining in the first half.

The Pioneers answered with a 3-0 run as Savannah Elliott recorded a hat trick to cut the lead to six, with 6:02 remaining in the first half, making the score 10-4. The Royals then matched the Pioneers' spurt with three straight goals of their own. Along the way, both Dowd and Paulus would record hat tricks themselves, and Queens would take a commanding 13-4 lead at the break.

In the opening minutes of the second half, Queens' Bruder and Tusculum's Madison Malone exchanged unassisted goals to make the score 14-5 with 26:50 remaining. This would spark the Royals' offense once again as they put six unanswered points on the board to see their biggest lead of the day, 20-5, with 16:12 remaining. Queens' Blood, Scott, and Bruder would join Dowd and Paulus in the hat trick category during that run.

Late in the game, the Royals' Perret recorded her first goal of the afternoon on the last goal of the day for Queens with a free position shot, at 6:45. Hayley Bartlett of Tusculum also found the back of the net in the closing minutes to give the game its final score of 22-8.

Queens continued their accuracy this season at the net, putting 31 of their 35 shots on goal. The Royals also dominated at the draw, 20-12.

Elliott led Tusculum with three goals, and Bartlett tallied two goals. Ryan, Malone, and Lowery netted one goal apiece. Kaitlin Winnie would finish with five saves in goal.

The Royals can be seen back in action on Monday, April 3 as they host University of Tampa at Dickson Field. The game is set to begin at 3 p.m.
