No. 8 Queens Defeats Bentley on the Road

SPARKS, Md. – The eighth-ranked Queens University of Charlotte women's lacrosse team traveled to face Bentley University this afternoon in a neutral site game, topping the Falcons 8-5. The win moves the Royals to 4-1 on the year, while the Falcons fall to 0-2.
 
Alexandra Bruder led the Royals with a hat trick and one assist, while Hanna Scott added two goals and three assists for five points. Shannon Mansberger totaled two goals and Allison Conn added one goal. Additionally, Kelly Dowd totaled five ground balls and five caused turnovers.
 
Hanna Scott got the Royals on the board first with an unassisted goal just under five minutes into play, and Bentley's Hannah Lindgren would match her score at 18:52. A goal from Conn soon followed, sparking a 6-0 run that took the Royals into the break with a 7-1 lead. Bruder and Mansberger each scored two goals during the run.
 
The Falcons would come out more successful in the second half outscoring the Royals, 4-1 in the period. They opened the with two goals in the first 10 minutes of action to cut the Royals' lead to four, 7-3, with 20:50 to play. A goal from Bruder broke up the run at 16:34, and her goal would be Queens' final score of the game as they were held scoreless for the remainder of play. In the final five minutes of action Lindgren of Bentley put two more balls in the back of the net to shrink the margin to just three, but time was on Queens' side as they used defensive pressure to hold off the Falcons' attack for the win.
 
The Royals outshot Bentley, 20-15, and edged the Falcons in ground balls, 18-13. Chase Brokaw took the win in goal after totaling seven saves.
 
The Falcons were led by Hannah Lindgren who totaled four goals. Goalkeeper Laren Ochs recorded nine saves in the loss.
 
The Royals will host the defending national champions, No. 6 Florida Southern College on Saturday at noon. It will be Youth Day and anyone 18 and under will be admitted for free.
