RALEIGH, N.C – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team (13-8) finished the day undefeated, giving up just three runs while scoring 17. The Royals topped Shippensburg (7-7) and Fairmont State (2-6), respectively, taking the first game 9-1 (five innings) before defeating the Fighting Falcons 8-2.

In the Royals' first at bat, Queens produced four runs as
Sabrina Martinez tallied the first run off a passed ball.
Elaina Frantellizzi drove a hit deep into center field, for a double, bringing home both
Kelly Winter and
Alyssa Strickler.
Breanna Martinez would top the inning, scoring off a passed ball for a 4-0 lead.

Queens added another run in the second from
Sydney Ditto before turning their attention to the third inning. Frantellizzi scored with the help of
Abby Lathan. Lathan added her name to the scoreboard soon after while
Evie Scott tallied the team's eighth run off a walk.

Shippensburg broke the shutout in the top of the fifth but a
Hanna Hasker closed out the game, taking advantage of an error.

Scott (4-2) pitched the entirety of the game, seeing five innings with just three hits and one run. Â

The Raiders used three pitchers as Julia Tosti suffered the loss with 1.2 innings pitched, five runs, and four hits. Chloe Collins stood in the circle for 0.2 innings tallying one hit and four runs while Nicole Smith closed the las 2.1 innings for one hit and one run.

The Royals started the second game of the day, against Fairmont State, with two runs in the top of the first. Ditto put the first run on the board before S. Martinez secured the second off an error.

Fairmont State responded with a run in the bottom of the inning but Queens added Winter and Hasker to their count, both scoring on a wild pitch.

The Falcons again found a run in the bottom of the inning but Queens held them off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game; however, the Royals would see four more runs before the day's end.

In the third, S. Martinez scored off a sacrifice bunt from Lathan while Strickler scored on an error. In the seventh Sanford rounded the bases thanks to a triple from S. Martinez into left field. Â S. Martinez earned the trip home off a single from Strickler.
Courtney Pearson (9-5) secured the win for the Royals with four hits and two runs.
Darby Petersen suffered the loss, 0-1, after coming in as the relief for six hits and six runs. Hannah Absalom pitched the first inning suffering one hit and two runs. Â

Queens will see the final day of the Shaw Tournament tomorrow, facing Mansfield at 10 p.m., and Virginia State at 12:30 p.m.
