No. 18 Queens Takes Care of Tornados on the Road

BREVARD, N.C. – No. 18 Queens University of Charlotte (5-2) traveled to Brevard College for a South Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse matchup this evening, defeating the Tornados 14-4 to remain undefeated at 3-0 in league play. Brevard falls to 2-7 on the year with the loss.

Queens held the Tornados to just one goal in each period of tonight's game, while freshman attacker Justin Swick went to work on the offensive end scoring a season-high six goals on nine shots. Reed Murphy and Garrett Sadler added two goals and one assist apiece, while Griffin Stechmiller scored two goals as well.

The Royals reeled off three goals in a row in the first quarter before the Tornados were able to get on the board at 6:22 after taking advantage of a man-up opportunity. Murphy of Queens then found the back of the net once more before the horn sounded taking the game into the second where the Royals really took control outscoring Brevard, 6-1. Queens took a 10-2 lead into the locker room at the break with Swick totaling five goals.

Having created such a large cushion in the opening half, Queens coasted to victory in the third and fourth period putting a pair of goals on the board in each quarter. Additionally, the Tornados added two points to their total in the second half to trail by 10 at the close.

Queens outshot Brevard, 47-22, putting 33 shots on goal to the Tornados' 16. The Royals also won 19-of-22 face-offs and totaled 54 ground balls. Jonathan Paige led with 12 ground balls, and Jimmy McGuinness totaled seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Anthony Caruso took the win in goal after recording 10 saves.

Kyle Hunziker led Brevard with two goals. Chris Stallings took the loss in the cage after totaling 14 saves.

The Royals will return home to Dickson Field on Saturday, March 18 when they host Florida Tech. The game is the first of a doubleheader with the women's lacrosse team. The men will take the field at 1 p.m.
