Oliverio Nets 18 in Queens loss to Brevard

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team fell this afternoon to Brevard College by the score of 58-49. The Royals record now sits at 4-17 on the year and 4-12 in the league, while the Tornados improve to 6-14 on the year and 2-14 in the South Atlantic Conference.

McKell Oliverio led the Royals today with 18 points, while Cheyenne Logan recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Maggie Stewart added 11 points and six rebounds.

The Royals found themselves trailing early in today's game as the Tornados knocked down three triples at the start. They would go up by as much as eight in the period before Queens closed with an 8-2 run to trail just 14-12 heading into the second.

The Tornados were still hot in the second, increasing their lead to seven, 21-14, with 7:40 on the clock in the period. Fortunately for Queens, Logan and Sarah Henson would pair up to bring the Royals within one, 25-24, thanks to a 10-4 run. However, a three-pointer from Brevard's Annalee Bollinger gave her team a 28-24 lead at the break.

The third quarter was a back and forth affair with a pair of shots by Henson at the foul line bringing Queens' to within one, 35-34, of the Tornados with just 54 seconds on the clock. A jumper and a layup by Brevard followed in the closing seconds to put them ahead 39-34 going into the final 10 minutes of play.

Brevard went on to see their largest lead of the day in the fourth when another three-pointer from Bollinger put them ahead by 11 points, 49-38. A 10-2 run by the Royals immediately followed, cutting the margin to three, 51-48. Queens would not get to overcoming their deficit, however, as Brevard ended with a 7-1 push for the win.

Madison Lenox led the Tornados with 18 points, while Bollinger added 17 points. Lynsey Crisp added 15 points.

The Royals will be on the road for both of their games next week, making their first stop at Wingate University on Wednesday, February 8. The Royals fell to the Bulldogs, 65-51, on January 18. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
