Milledgeville, Ga. – The Queens University of Charlotte's softball team started off their season playing in a double-header at the Peeler Complex in Milledgeville, Ga., tonight. The team took on Young Harris College suffering their first loss with a score of 4-0 and dropping in game two, 11-3, in five innings of play.

The Royals struggled to get swings through the first four-innings, but fortunately Young Harris was also left wanting as both programs battled through a defensive game, tied at 0-0. It was not until the fifth inning that the Mountain Lions were able to find a run with a hit from Georgia Webb getting Amber Winters to home plate.

Queens battled against the pitching of Jeanie Perrucci, who gave up three hits and 15 strikeouts. Despite the Royals finding hits from both
Sydney Ditto and
Abby Lathan, they were unable to get on the board.

Courtney Pearson pitched for the Royals in the seven inning stretch, seeing six hits and three strikeouts.

In game two, Young Harris took a large lead scoring two runs in the first inning, two in the second, and five in the third. Finally in the fourth inning, with hits from both
Skye Moore and
Alyssa Strickler, Queens was on the board (5-2). With Lathan already on base off a walk, Moore singled to left center and advanced to second on the throw allowing Lathan to reach home plate. Shortly after, Strickler also singled to left center and advanced to second on the throw as Moore scored.

In the top of the fifth inning, Lathan recorded another hit and an RBI from Ditto crossing home plate, making the score 11-3. During the game, both
Evie Scott and
Allison Lopez pitched for Queens; Scott recorded two strikeouts.

Young Harris improved to 2-0 on the season, whereas Queens suffered their first two losses to open their 2017 season. The Royals will compete tomorrow against the host school Georgia College & State University in a double header beginning at 4:30 p.m.
