CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team won their second conference match of the season against Lenoir-Rhyne University by a score of 7-2. The Royals swept the doubles matches 3-0 and dominated the singles matches 4-2. Queens moves to an overall record of 2-1 with a conference record of 2-0. The Bears drop to an overall record of 5-2 and a South Atlantic Conference record of 1-1.
The Royals opened up the day with three points in the doubles matches.
Andor Vas and
Paolo Bompieri secured the teams' first point winning their match 8-6 over Lenoir Rhyne's Thomas Hons and Shane O'Dea.
Jules Athalis and
Joel Dunlap followed suit winning their match on court two by a score of 8-4.
Giovanni Setti and
Sebastian Meum clinched the final doubles match, and third point for the Royals, with a score 8-4.
In singles,
Jules Athalis secured the teams' fourth point on the day. He won his sets 6-2, 6-2 defeating Lenoir Rhyne's Thomas Hons. Queens'
Paolo Bompieri secured the fifth and final point the Royals' would need to secure the overall win, defeating Lenoir Rhyne's Shane O'Dea 6-2, 6-4.
Giovanni Setti won his match over Paul Lenz 6-3, 6-2, while
Zachary Williams came from behind to secure the teams' final two points.
The Royals will be back in action this Saturday, February 25 as they play host to Brevard College (2-6, 0-3). The match will begin at 1 p.m., and will be played at Freedom Park in Charlotte, N.C.
