BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's tennis team suffered a narrow loss to NCAA Division I opponent Gardner-Webb on Sunday, February 19, 2017. The Royals fell shy of the upset with a 4-3 score moving to a 1-1 overall record while Gardner-Webb now holds a 3-5 record.
The Runnin' Bulldogs started the day tallying the singles point as the two teams played off of the division I model that scores the doubles play with a deciding point for all three matches.
The Royals bounced back in the singles matchups, however, claiming half of the courts in their favor.
Agustin Aran Martin topped Adam Schmidt in the No. 3 slot to take a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) victory.
Andor Vas followed with the win on court four while
Giovanni Setti topped court five. Vas secured his victory in three sets, fighting his way to the 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win. Setti also saw three sets going 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4) for the tie-break victory.
Queens will face conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne on Thursday, February 23. The Royals return home for the competition and will start play at 1 p.m.
