MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte softball team completed the second day of the Chowan Tournament on Sunday, February 19, 2017, securing the sweep the tournament with wins over Nyack College and Chowan University during the day's events. The Royals started the day with Nyack, defeating the Warriors with a 7-5 score. Queens would blank Chowan in the pairs second meeting of the weekend, 9-0, in five innings.

Back-to-back scoring innings, opened the day for the Warriors who sent Alissa Brugn home in the first and saw Katalina Pad homer in the second. However, Queens quickly took control as they capitalized on an error to put their first runner,
Elaina Frantellizzi, on the scoreboard.
Alyssa Strickler soon followed after
Kelly Winter singled through the right side of the field. A few batters later, Winter and
Evie Scott posted scores as a triple from
Breanna Martinez opened up room for the offense.

The lead soon found its way to the Warriors as they answered in the top of the third with Brugn, who again reached home. Nyack saw a two-run homerun from Morgan Hans in the fourth to regain their lead at 5-4.

Unrelenting, Queens found three runs between the fifth and sixth innings to claim the game.
Abby Lathan, scored in the fifth off an error before Winter and
Courtney Pearson, respectively, found space to reach home in the sixth.
Sydney Ditto claimed the RBI for Winter while
Brooke Sanford placed a hit in left field for Pearson.

Evie Scott (3-2) secured the winning going four inning within the circle with five runs and six hits.
Courtney Pearson finished the three innings with no hits and no runs.

Nicole Wisse (0-1) suffered the loss with four hits and four runs during the first three innings of the game. Brittany Bla pitched for three innings with five hits and three runs.

A fruitful second inning in game two put Queens ahead of Chowan by six. Strickler and Winter, respectively, scored off of back-to-back singles while Lathan's single allowed both Ditto and Sanford to score. Queens added two more scores with a pair of singles for both Lathan and S. Â Martinez to reached home plate.

In the team's third at bat, Ditto's single led to Winter finding another run to move the team ahead with the addition of B. Martinez crossing the plate (8-0). The Royals closed out the game with a ninth run, coming in the fourth inning, off a single from
Skye Moore for Strickler to cross the plate.

Courtney Pearson (4-4) garnered the win going all five innings with no runs and five hits.

Audrey Hubbard (0-2) suffered the loss with two innings pitched, six runs, and seven hits while Shelby Griffis came is as the relief pitcher tallying five hits and three runs.

The Royals will head to Belmont Abbey on Wednesday, February 22, for their next series. The double-header will begin at 2 p.m.
