BELMONT, N.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte softball team extended their streak to eight games today with a pair of wins over Belmont Abbey. As the Royals secured the victory with an 8-2 and 8-3 score, respectively, the team moved to 9-7 on the season. Belmont Abbey dropped to 2-10-2 overall.

Despite the Crusader taking an early 2-0 lead after the first at bat, Queens kept the home team off board as they scored runs in five of the remaining six innings.
Elaina Frantellizzi secured the team's first run, scoring in the top of the second off a hit from
Breanna Martinez.
Kelly Winter added the second run of the inning after
Brooke Sanford won the pitching battle for a free pass to base.

In the third inning,
Samantha Martinez reached home after B. Martinez doubled into left center field.
Alyssa Strickler followed with a run in the fifth while
Sydney Ditto scored in the sixth.

Queens finished with three runs in the seventh inning as Winter,
Hanna Hasker, and Ditto, respectively, reached the home plate to concluded the game.Â
Ditto and Winter each found a pair of runs during the matchup while Frantellizzi and Sanford each took a pair of hits to lead the team.

Courtney Pearson secured the pitching win to move to 5-4 on the year. She saw eight hits and two runs.

Shannan Mas (1-3) suffered the loss after going 4.1 innings with four hits and five runs. Annabeth Watkins stood in the pitching circle for an inning while Alyssa Buell finished the 1.2 remaining innings with three hits and three runs.

In the second game of the day, Queens jumped out early with four runs in their first at-bat from Lathan, Ditto, S. Martinez, and Frantellizzi. Queens added two more in the top of the second as a single from S. Martinez shot Sanford and Ditto around the bases.

Belmont Abbey added a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. They would find just one more run in the bottom of the fifth to conclude their scoring.

Queens finished the day with Ditto scoring in the fourth and Stickler scoring in the fifth.

Ditto added three runs in the second game for five total during the day's events. She also found a pair of hits while S. Martinez led the team at four in the statistical category.
Evie Scott (4-2) found the game win standing in the pitching circle for all seven innings. She suffered five hits but gave up only three runs.

Peyton Wilson tabbed the loss for the Crusaders as she totaled seven hits and six runs in 1.1 innings. Amelia Saldivar came in as the relief pitcher for five hits and two runs over the course of her 5.2 innings pitched.

Queens will head to Erskine College to take on the Flying Fleet on Saturday, February 25, at 1 p.m. The teams met this past weekend in the Chowan Tournament. Queens tallied the win with a 4-3 victory over Erskine.
