HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team suffered a narrow defeat on the road today against
Coker College. The Royals battled the Cobras through seven ties and ten lead changes, eventually suffering a 50-46 loss. Queens moves to a 4-16 overall and 4-11 within the South Atlantic Conference while
Coker advanced to 5-15 overall and 4-11 within the league.

Sarah Henson and
Maggie Stewart equaled at nine points apiece to top the team during the game. Henson was seven for seven from the free-throw line while Stewart tallied five rebounds.
Cheyenne Logan posted eight points and seven rebounds to help the Royals.

Although
Coker took an early seven point lead, Queens battled to bring the game to a tie by the end of the first quarter (12-12).

An early basket at the beginning of the second from
Victoria Robinson moved the Royals ahead 14-12 as both teams looked to establish control. Neither program, however, was able to extend past a two possession gain as the half broke with a 26-26 score. Â
Stewart knocked down the first basket in the second half, drawing the foul for a three-point play. However, back-to-back trips to the line allowed the Cobras to find the tying point with 5:14 remaining in the period (29-29). As the clocked continued to count down,
Coker found a large momentum swing with a 9-1 run that lasted until the final minute of the quarter.
McKell Oliverio halted the run with a shot from long range. Her basket was the last of the third quarter as the time expired with the Cobras leading 38-33.

Unrelenting, Queens rattled off a three pointer from
Oliverio and a back-to-back
layups from Logan and
Carmen Richardson, respectively, to take the lead once more (39-38). The six point run forced
Coker to take a timeout call. The two teams tussled for the lead, seeing the game move into the final five minutes of play. Coker's Sydney
Shull was finally able to provide some distance with a basket from beyond the arc, putting the Cobras up by five (46-41). Queens posted five points from the line but was unable to find a basket from the floor before the clock expired. Despite this, the Royals were still able to come within two points with 28 seconds remaining.
Shull would make two free-throws to put the game out of reach with eight seconds left on the clock.

Shull concluded the night with 20 points and three steals. She was followed by
Iresah Cooper who posted 10 points and five rebounds.

Queens will host Brevard in their next game as the program returns home for Homecoming. The matchup is schedule for Saturday at 2 p.m.
