No. 2 Queens Heads into Holiday Break Undefeated at 12-0

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
No. 2 Queens University of Charlotte will head into the holiday break undefeated at 12-0 after defeating Johnson C. Smith University this evening, 83-77, to complete the home-and-home series sweep over the Golden Bulls this season. Johnson C. Smith now sits at 8-4 on the year.
 
Mike Davis led the Royals with 15 points this evening to go along with five rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Ike Agusi followed with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Todd Withers totaled 11 points and four rebounds, while Daniel Carr recorded 10 points. Jalin Alexander and Darryl White each chipped in with nine points. White also totaled six rebounds.
 
Queens dominated the first half of play despite tonight's game being their third in four days. Eight unanswered points would give them a 16-4 lead with 14:46 on the clock, and a 9-2 run soon after put the home team ahead by 19 points, 25-6, with 12:35 to play. Queens would see its largest lead of the night out of the under-four media timeout when Josh Van Weezep followed a dunk by Withers with a triple to put the Royals in front by 21 points, 42-21, at 3:23. Queens would head into the locker room at the break in front, 44-32, after the Golden Bulls closed the half with an 11-2 run.
 
The Royals increased their lead back out to 17 at the start of the second half, but by the 12:40 mark they held just an eight-point advantage, 59-51, over the Golden Bulls. Johnson C. Smith continued to chip away at Queens' lead eventually tying the game up at 75-75 on a three-pointer from Roddric Ross at 3:45. The Royals' Shaun Willett would follow with a dunk after a baseline drive to return the lead to Queens for good. A triple from Carr with 7.5 seconds on the clock would be the final dagger as Queens took the six-point win.  
 
Queens connected on 15-of-21 shots from the charity stripe in the second half after attempting just one free throw in the first half.
 
Robert Davis led the Golden Bulls with 21 points, while Christian Kirchman added 16 points. Ross totaled 15 points, and Arthur Bennett added 10 points.
 
The Royals will return from the holiday break to face Tarleton State University on Saturday, Dec. 30. It will be the first meeting between the two teams in program history. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. eastern time in Stephenville, Texas.
