Postgame Interview with Sarah Jansen
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Queens University of Charlotte women's basketball team suffered a 73-44 loss at home against to the Indians of Catawba College in each team's South Atlantic Conference opener on Wednesday night.
The Royals (2-3, 0-1 SAC) were down in the early going of the first quarter, but battled back to take a 9-8 lead on a layup from junior
Ceara Leavai. However, Catawba (3-3, 1-0 SAC) responded with a 10-4 run to claim a five-point lead after the game's opening 10 minutes of play.
Catawba was able to extend its lead to an eight-point edge with 7:21 to play in the second period, but freshman,
Caitlyn Moore hit two three- pointers, one which brought the Royals within two points of the Indians lead halfway through the quarter.
The Indians once again responded with a scoring burst and carried a 12-point lead into intermission. Catawba never trailed in the second half, claiming its first league win of the year.
Catawba's Terri Rogers led all players with 18 points to go along with six rebounds, followed by 17 points from teammate Serena Brown.
Junior
Lade Adepoju led the Royals with 11 points and six rebounds, while Moore and senior
Mendy McNeese tallied eight and seven points, respectively. Freshman
Herning Wang also had eight points to accompany six rebounds in 22 minutes off of the bench.
The Royals continue SAC play this weekend when they travel to Greeneville, Tenn. for a 2 p.m. contest with Tusculum College on Saturday.
