No. 2 Queens Opens Season with Hot Shooting at Georgia College

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Queens University of Charlotte men's basketball team, currently ranked second in the nation, opened its season this evening in the Bobcat Crossover Classic. The Royals took on tournament host Georgia College defeating the Bobcats, 89-53, to begin their 2017-18 season at 1-0.
 
Mike Davis scored 13 points to lead the Royals in scoring. He also totaled nine rebounds just missing a double-double. Todd Withers added 12 points while Jalin Alexander tallied 11 points and five assists. Josh Van Weezep also recorded 11 points, and Ike Agusi recorded nine points, five rebounds, and five assists. Lewis Diankulu, Shaun Willett, and Solomon Smith made their debuts as Royals totaling eight, seven, and five points, respectively.
 
The Royals led by as much as 22 points on a few occasions in the first half before heading into the locker room ahead, 45-26, at the break. After going back and forth early with the Bobcats, Queens used a 26-4 run to build its lead. By the end of the half, they had connected on 10-of-17 shots from deep to shoot an impressive 58.8-percent from behind the three-point arc in the period. Additionally, the Royals shot 51.9-percent from the floor and 70-percent from the foul line in the opening half.  
 
Queens continued to have the hot hand in the second half as they extended their lead to as much as 41 points before the final horn sounded. They would complete play shooting 48.2-percent from the floor, 51.6-percent from the three, and 76-percent from the charity stripe.
 
Chapin Rierson led the Bobcats who were held to just 30.8-percent shooting this evening. He totaled 14 points while Kohl Roberts scored 12 points.
 
Queens is back in action in the Bobcat Crossover Classic tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. when they take on the University of North Georgia. The Royals defeated the Nighthawks last season by a score of 92-84. Alexander led with 26 points in the win.
